About NewMexicoSeed.com
My Story
Hello, my name is Drew Cozby and I started this business because of a couple of problems I had in my quest to grow a freezer full of green chile. I live in southern New Mexico, about 50 miles from Hatch (as the crow flies) but couldn’t find chile seeds anywhere locally. Hard to believe, but nobody sold these seeds in local stores. That needed to change, but that wasn’t the main issue that motivated me.
Seeds Deserve Better, There's a Better Way
Last year I grew Big Jim chiles and they were great, but this year I wanted to step up the heat and grow some Sandias, but of course, I had to order chile seeds from the internet. So, I ordered seeds from Amazon this spring and eagerly awaited their delivery.
After a couple of days, I checked in on the progress of the order and realized that these seeds were on the “See America Roadtrip” starting in Virginia. How they got from New Mexico to Virginia is anybody’s guess, but I know that on their way home they spent the night partying in Louisville before catching a flight to Albuquerque. From there, they rode in the back of a truck, transferred a couple of times before showing up on my doorstep. If only these seeds could talk, I’m sure they would have a wild story because they looked like hell.
The paper seed package was dirty and had been crushed. In fact, many seeds were broken and the shape of each seed was actually embossed into the paper of the package. In addition, it looked as if a dog had chewed on one corner of the pack and it may have gotten wet at some point. Needless to say, none of the seeds germinated.
It got me to thinking- why are seeds packaged in cheesy paper envelopes? Seeds deserve better.
Thus, NewMexicoSeed.com and the Micro-SeedVault were born providing seeds to my local retail market as well as packaging the seeds in a way that protects them during their “See America Roadtrip” from New Mexico to your garden.
Thank you for your interest in New Mexico chile seeds. I hope you have a great harvest!
